She's big, brave and beautiful. It's Beth Ditto!

Two posts in one day, now that's dedication!

At the end of my last post, I tagged a vid of Simian Mobile Disco ft Beth Ditto. This got me thinking. Beth Ditto. She's a pretty unique woman don't you think?! Not only is she a kick arse singer in a band called 'The Gossip'. She's inspiration to thousands, millions of women out there.

Her clothes line for Topshop hit headlines. Beth Ditto is a gorgeous plus size woman who felt that Topshop didn't provide for 'plus size' women, like herself. What did she do? She did something about it, creating her own unique range and style.

You know what, I wish I had her bottle. She has such ferocious confidence! You have got to admire that. "Kiss my ass!" Now that's some serious attitude she's got, which she channels in to self confidence, passion for her size and for women like her, and her music. She's purely an inspiration in my opinion. Do you agree? How could you not.

Beautiful.

2010 My Dahling's...

New Year! You ready for it? 2010 here we come, and I have a good feeling.

I must admit I am quite excited about 2010. I wonder what fashions and trends I'll encounter, who I'll meet and what exciting things I'll get up to. I have new goals, new resolutions - which I intend to keep. My resolutions are;

-To try and get a part time job somewhere.
-To try and do a post every day or every two days.
-To work really hard at school and make sure everything is done on time.
-To have fun!

Last night I got thinking, at midnight tonight I'll be able to say; "I'll be 16 this year", and "next year I can drive." Now, that's wierd 'eh! I'm growing up so fast, but I kind of like it. People change, fashions change. Nothing can stay the same forever. That's just a big part of growing up I guess. Learning to roll with the changes. But on the plus side, it means lots of fabulous new styles to try out!

What are you resolutions? Have you got any daring plans this year? How are you celebrating tonight? Leave some comments and keep me posted.

Whatever you're doing, have fun, and Happy New Year followers!!!!

I'll be leaving you with an amazing song ft Beth Ditto, which has really got me ready for the New Year to arrive. Enjoy.

One aspiring journalist to another...

I recently came across some fabulous people on 'Independent Fashion Bloggers'.
There's a group I was invited to, where bloggers interview bloggers. It's a gem of an idea, so I interviewed the creator, Gotham Hipster.  She's very cool. Check out her blog, it's fabulous; http://www.gothamhipster.blogspot.com/. Enjoy!

Who, or what inspires you?
This question is so oddly difficult to answer. I am inspired by New Yorkers; they're not afraid to take risks and are unambiguously wacky. But I'm also inspired by old movies like Charade, and Poirot films.

Does what you wear help you to 'be' somebody.
My outfits change personas on a daily basis. Each morning when I get dressed up, that character becomes a part of me, helping me mold my overall style.

If you could give one fashion tip to somebody, what would it be?
My fashion tip is that the best accessory is confidence; even the most hideous outfit can be made fabulous if you flaunt it, and make it your own.

Why did you decide to do a blog? Why on fashion and not something else?
I hope to pursue a career in fashion editorials, and as I am a young teen I thought there was no better way to exercise fashion journalism than to experience it firsthand.

Who are your 3 top style icons, past and present?
Agyness Deyn: I am smitten with her by her bold fashion choices, she's never afraid to look a little raunchy and yet she looks stunning none the less.

Zoe Kravitz: she makes her bohemian rocker style, mixed with the ultimate vintage closet, look so effortless.

Valerie Malone: The 90210 star (played by Tiffani Thiessen) makes me want to wear crop tops and high-waisted anything, non stop.

Do you think you have to be skinny to be stunning and stylish?
No, not at all. In V magazine's "One Size Fits All" spread, a standard thin model is photographed against a plus size model in the exact same outfit. You know what? The 'plus size' model, Crystal Renn rocked the look, so what if she actually had skin on her bones?

Are you big on accessories?
My favourite designer is Sonia Rykiel, I adore all of the sequin berets she showed this season. I have all of these vintage berets I got from my Grandmother that I've been wearing. Occasionaly I wear bows and this wonderful western belt I found at Zachery's Smile in NYC.

How much does your heritage, and the environment in which you grew up effect your style?
If I had grown up in a small town I wouldn't have been exposed to the melting pot of style, culture and people that I am in New York. Without it I wouldn't have gotten to explore all of the the things I hold dear to my heart here.

Have you been through many fashion fazes, and if so which was your favourite, and which was your worst?

Fashion is constantly evolving, and I can't say my style changes around what's trendy. But it has certainly endured many fazes. Currently I love anything velvet and the juxtaposition of wearing bandage skirts with comfy oversized sweaters. Way back when I didn't have bangs, oh goodness that was bad.

And finally, what was your favourite fashion era?
My favourite era was the 80's because I love how spirited it was. No one was afraid to experiment with exuberant combinations; no colours ever clashed, nothing was ever to high-waisted or short.

WAGS...

Wags. Otherwise known as 'wives and girlfriends' of footballers. Gorgeous, groomed and gold digging glamourous.

Victoria Beckham. Cheryl Cole. Coleen Mcloughlin. All great examples. For 'normal' people, (by normal I mean those that don't have millions stashed away) 'getting your nails done' and 'spray tans' and 'botox' were scarcely heard of. Then the wags came along and house wives all over the country were running off to the salons to get dolled up.

Victoria Beckham

Cheryl Cole

In fashion it's the same. Everybody has their influences and inspirations. People choose an genre, a person, an aspiration, and style themselves around that particular image. Do you agree? So let's take Coleen Mcloughlin for example. Her womanly figure showed that you can be a 'real woman' and be beautiful all the same. Victoria Beckham gave name to the 'POB'. Cheryl Cole inspired many to wear big names effortlessly. As did the rest of the WAGS.

I want to know where your styles come from. Which big names inspire you? Who do you take your inspiration from?

Karl Lagerfeld...

I first saw him in a magazine. I thought his style was sharp and clean cut, he made a statement with what he wore. Then I saw him again, and again, still wearing the same sharp white shirt; buttoned up to the chin. A thin black tie, trademark black sunglasses. Black. White. Boring? This leads me to think, why should we take fashion advice from a man that wears the same thing continuously.

He has been known for slamming anybody that does not follow his beliefs that 'size-zero' is the way to be in the 'fashion industry'. He is one of the most controversial men in the fashion world. Titled 'The King' by adoring fans. To me a man that has been quoted saying; "people prefer to look at 'skinny models' and anybody who does not are 'fat mummies'", is not a man that should be bigged up and supported, for he just adds another cog in the machine of anorexia and bulimia in teens. I ask you, do you think that Lagerfeld is a great man, a man that all should look up to and hail down to, for he is the 'King'. Yes he is the creative director for the Fashion house Chanel, and Fendi, but for those reasons and those reasons alone, does that give him the voice to stand up and slate 'real' sized human beings? I would love to hear your thoughts.

What are your opinions on Karl Lagerfeld. Credit where credit's due, as far as fashion goes he has done some great things. But as a man, and the things he stands for, do you feel he should be respected? I would love to hear your thoughts.

Nice suit...

What goes around comes around...

In fashion what's 'in' is 'out' and what's 'out' is soon back 'in' again. You know what they say, if you leave an item in your wardrobe for a few years, it will be worth its weight in gold - as far as fashion goes anyway.

In this post I will show that fashion is on a loop. Everything is taken from inspiration. Just take the 80's revival for example. Big hair, leggings, blazers and even shoulder pads. I personally love anything to do with the 80's, I think the 'cool' edge and impact the 80's had on fashion is incredible. But why is it so hot in noughties?

Back then:

Wayfarers were 'hot' in a big way in the 80's. Now you can't walk down the high street without seeing a pair or two.

Now:

Bringing sexy back. Raybans a go-go. Pretty much every style icon owns a pair, do you?

Back Then:

Shoulder pads were made famous in a big way by programmes such as Dynasty.

They're back:

Everybody's wearing them, like it or not they're back, and they just keep getting bigger and bigger and ...

Boho is back.

Hippie sheek street styles are back on the scene. Braids, beads, folk patterns and faux fur. What's not to love. Layering is key. If you don't love it, you will.

Scrooge or what?!

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!

For the life of me, I just don't get it. Why don't I feel 'christmasy'??? It's snowing, decorations are up, the festive tunes are swilling around in the air, but...nope. Nothing. Freezer stocked full of food, and...nope. Nothing. It's slightly worrying that the night before Christmas-eve I am typing out a post, saying how 'bah-humbug' I'm feeling. Suckish or what!?!

I am desperately trying to get in to the 'mood', and find my Christmas spirit. I think a little inspiration is in aid of...

I feel slightly more festive.

Merry Christmas everybody.
